Sarah TurrellBorn in Hertfordshire in 1958 Sarah trained as a classical musician, turning to pottery in her early thirties. The inspiration for the shape of her forms is primarily derived from the contours of flower heads, and the colours from the ever changing effects of light on land, water and sky. Sarah now lives and works in Tuscany, Italy where she continues to develop her own unique style using stoneware clay, in an area almost entirely devoted to earthenware and the traditional majolica decoration. Sarah and her husband have restored a group of old Tuscan farm buildings into holiday accommodation, living space, music studio and pottery workshop, where she will run courses for beginners who wish to experience the excitement of making something on the potters wheel. Sarah’s pots are strong and durable, a family of useful forms – plates, bowls, mugs, jugs and vases - happy in the oven and dishwasher, although many remain on display to be enjoyed as individual pieces of art. Since moving to Italy Sarah has maintained her links with her many UK customers and galleries. Click here to Sarah’s work and buy her beautiful stoneware pottery |
