James MilborrowJames started sculpting almost 40 years ago but what started as a hobby soon became a profession and for the last 20 years or so he has exhibited in gardens and galleries across the country. Works have been sold to companies as well as to private collectors across the globe from Australia and Hong Kong to the United States of America and there is even an African Black Heron resident in South Africa ! The sculptures are worked in many different metals, but principally in stainless steel and it needs to be seen to be believed what can be achieved with the same material which we normally associate with pots and pans ! The beauty of this material is that it does not rust and so is equally happy to be in the home or in the garden. Artistic talent and engineering skills have come together to produce these distinctive and unique sculptures which are inspired by wildlife and natural forms. No casting is involved and each work is individually crafted. To create a bird such as a Woodpecker, for example, would take about 150 feathers, all of which are cut by hand and then TIG (tungsten inert gas) welded. Colours ranging from light straw to purple are achieved on the finished sculpture by the application of heat. As well as wildlife of all shapes and sizes, James creates wonderful and imaginative abstract pieces which make a perfect addition to a garden. Strategically placed these pieces reflect both light and the colours of nearby plants. We have a selection of James’ work on Gifted Passion, however commission work is very welcomed. If you have an interest in a particular bird which you do not see, please contact us we shall contact you to further discuss your requirements.
